          Design and draw portraits, self-portraits and figures of people realistic and unrealistic in style, using a variety of media including paint, markers, crayons, clay, paper and fabric.

          Get ready to have fun using the dramatic arts to team build, encourage reading skills and build self-esteem. We will read plays, create scenery murals and present several plays as a final performance.

          Travel the globe to be inspired by different groups of people in this art adventure! Visit Panama to create bright paper molas, China to create dragon puppets, Istanbul to create shadow puppets, and Hawaii to create Tapa cloth. Pack your passport and your imagination!

          Visit van Gogh’s Holland through his beautiful landscapes and sunflower paintings. View Monet’s property at Giverny with his water lily series. Learn to paint like the Masters and create your own masterpieces to take home!

        • Clay Works: Texture and Patterns

          Experiment with clay for creating textured surfaces. Stack clay in forms to make a sculpture of your choice, then use a variety of materials to texture the surface of the clay. Also work with the different materials for making patterns to then be applied to paintings, prints or sculptures.

          Climb aboard a time machine to travel back to ancient times. Visit ancient Greece to create scratch board story vases, Ancient Egypt to paint on papyrus, Pompeii to create cut paper mosaics, the Middle Ages to create narrative paintings, and to the Renaissance to create papier-mâché masks.

          Visit the imaginary world of castles, dragons, princes, and princesses. Feel like royalty as you design crowns and scepters, draw castles, and sculpt dragon puppets from paper. Explore art concepts and a variety of materials and techniques in this fairytale inspired art class.

          For students with some flute experience, this camp focuses on ensemble playing. Incorporating alto and bass flutes (provided by the instructor), musicians will develop group playing skills, listening, and intonation with a recital for friends and family.

          Go Green! Recycled Art (6-8) - Starting by exploring the journals of Dan Eldon, we’ll create our own visual journals from found objects and recycled materials. We’ll also explore the shadowboxes of artist Joseph Cornell and learn about the art of assemblage. Finally, we’ll make collographs while learning about collage and texture. All of our projects will use discarded and recycled materials so we can go green!

          Feelings are often expressed through poetry, and in this workshop we explore the way in which the “Beat” Poets used language to do this. Campers will be encouraged to explore their own emotions through creation of original poetry.
